Okay, it is one thing to have to go to work on the day after Christmas, but it another thing entirely to actually have a bunch of stuff to do. :p

Random poll! )

I tried my luck at downloading the Doctor Who Christmas special, but no dice. I'll try again tonight, and otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait it out. Boooo. I'm working tonight, hopefully hanging out with Aster tomorrow night, and my sister is supposed to come visit Thursday night. And then! Three whole blissful days off from Saturday-Monday. Still don't have any New Year's plans to speak of, but hopefully something will crop up. If nothing else, there are always fireworks and creepy mimes down by the docks.

Also! Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] _jems_! I hope you're having fun!

Doctor Who ramblings. Like, actually rambling. There's no coherence here at all. )

This show makes me miss being an English major. What I wouldn't give to hash that out in a room full of English-y kids. Also, I need a Doomsday Rose icon, like, five hours ago. I should get on that.

++

Other things. My weekend was mostly uneventful, except I went to see the Violent Femmes in Baltimore on Friday night, which was all kinds of awesome. They had a tuba soloist, which, totally cool. Also, they played Please Do Not Go, which I know was one of their more popular singles so of course they would, but it's my favorite, so suck it, Turk.

Today, it's rainy and cold outside, which is good because we need it and I'm sick of the humidity, but bad because it's rainy and cold outside. Ashley and I are going to visit Aster for a bit tonight, which should be fun and relaxing, and then I may come home and settle in with some of the Doctor Who Confidentials.

Next weekend was supposed to be my vacation, which kinda blows. I really want to get up to Boston before it gets too cold. Hopefully right in the middle of autumn, before the leaves all fall. Next weekend, however, is the Busch Gardens trip, and I'm really starting to look forward to it. I hope it's cool enough for sweatshirts by then. I miss my sweatshirts. And do you know how long it's been since I could just bum around somewhere in jeans and my chucks? Plus, there's the whole rollercoasters-hotel-with-friends-dinner-and-swimming thing, too. ;)

I have to pee.

Sooo...no one's going to be in the office with me for a couple of hours, and I'm running out of work to do, so I kinda wanna do the top 5 meme again, and I'm gonna steal Teija's line:

Ask me top fives or I'll silently resent you!

Please? BOREDOM MIGHT KILL ME!

So, the Foo Fighters played an acoustic show at DAR Constitution Hall on Tuesday night, and I just happened to be there.

Setlist )

I say this every time, but those boys put on such a great show. Taylor and Dave have this adorable chemistry on stage. And! Pat Smear was there! I really liked the flow of this type of show, too, Dave got to tell us a lot of little stories about the songs, and made fun of the hometown accent, and how he left us all in the dust as soon as he got famous. I really love seeing him here, because he grew up here and used to record here and knows the area and makes all the right jokes about the place.

My life is one step closer to complete, though, because I have seen February Stars performed live. Hands down, that's my favorite Foo Fighters song, and I never ever thought that some random song from the end of an album they made almost ten years ago would be played on stage for me, but there it was. For the encore, he came out alone and told us a really long story (that we've all basically heard before) about writing Friend of a Friend in Washington when he was living with Kurt and Chris. He wailed out on Best of You, and then told the drummer joke ("what's the last thing the drummer said before getting kicked out of the band?") and dedicated Everlong to all the drummers in the audience. It was so much fun to just sit back and listen to the man's songs, and I'm not lying when I tell you that every time I have the opportunity to go see these guys play, I will gladly fork over my money.

I keep meaning to write about a million other things -- I went to Bethesda and saw Laura and James last weekend, and we had Indian food and frappachinos and spice cake and it was lots of fun and needs to become more than an annual thing. (Laura, I swear I'm switching my files over! Music soon, I promise!) I want to do that character/'ship/episode meme, I want to post pictures, including one of my new (green!) computer. Also, I'm trying to make plans for my upcoming work-free weekend, which is fast being filled up with things that aren't sitting around in my pajamas doing nothing like I'd originally planned. Which, I guess is actually okay with me. Having plans and seeing people is nice, too.

Anyway, I have a ton of work I'm not doing. So I should do that. And also link to possibly one of the greatest JIMspams I've ever seen. Mostly for my benefit, but also for Ashley, who will hopefully see this before she runs off to Newport again. :)

Anyway. Fiona Apple tonight! I'm working hard to contain my bouncy glee at the moment, just in case you were wondering. *g* We've got pretty awesome seats, and Wolf Trap is a really great venue if you have good seats, so here's hoping for a fantastic show.

Things that make me happy today:

1. RENT! )

2. Weekends where I don't have to work at all. )

3. Any variation of the name "JfDoh." Cracks me up every. single. time.

4. The West Wing: Institutional Memory )

5. Christina's post about this weekend. Or, well, actually, Ashley's demon spawn icon. Hee.

6. I'm officially going to be tutoring Spanish to a high school senior over the summer. I don't actually *speak* fluent Spanish, but I'm hoping this will be an opportunity for me to get a little closer to that particular goal of mine. But I think I'll do okay, especially since I'm only tutoring him on the early-level stuff. I know the grammar, I'm just awful at connecting stuff in my head. I think I've figured out what my roadblock is, though. Instead of just hearing the language, I translate everything in my head first, and then I'm always two sentences behind whatever's being said. I'm not sure how to fix that, but there you go.

7. Today has completely flown by. It's already after lunch. Woo.

8. I wore rainbow-striped underwear to Rent. I'm still amused, okay?

9. Animaniacs on DVD!

10. The fact that, even though there is an equally long list of things that don't make me happy today (which includes the rainy weather, having to work 15 hours today, getting chastised for not cleaning up after other people who never clean up after themselves, not being terribly excited for the VM finale, and my mom canceling our hair appointment/dinner date for tomorrow night), I'm not especially compelled to dwell on any of them. Woohoo, happy things.

How's everyone else on this somewhat bleak Monday?

The West Wing: Transition )

How Duncan Kane and coma babies ruined forever my favorite episode of VM. )

I'm chugging along with S1 of Six Feet Under. The only thing I really have to say at this point, though, is that Michael C. Hall just completely owns that entire cast. Where did he come from and why is not wildly famous?
evergleam: (ad - buster's blowing through nap time)
So, I felt really crappy this weekend. So crappy, and tired and headachey and feverish, that I called out of work last night. And what with Netflix feeding my habit and all, I watched a lot of television.

Freaks & Geeks: 1x01-1x03 )

Battlestar Galactica Miniseries )

Six Feet Under 1x01-1x03 )

Also, after some distance and conversations with others and a re-watch of Noel, I have a bunch more thoughts on last night's TWW. But, I think I'll wait and save them for next week, because I'd like to see how they handle that. I'm hoping they remember that Josh makes jokes when he doesn't know how to handle things. That'd be nice.

And finally, a very happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] whisperwords! I hope you're having a fantastic day!

I did nothing but work this weekend. And read Anthony Rapp's book. And work some more. Followed by more reading. And then I watched The West Wing. Thus:

TWW: The Cold, spoilers for the episode and the preview that aired afterward. )

Also, I bought tickets to see Rent when it comes to the Warner Theater in DC. Saturday night showing, orchestra seating, slightly to the left of the middle. Very excited. :)

1. Every morning, as I'm inevitably rushing out the door because I'm at least ten minutes behind, I fill up my McDaniel College Nalgene bottle (which, trust me, has seen better days) with water. A few weeks ago, Ashley made me watch an episode of The Office from the first season, because she said it made her think of me. And now, each morning as I'm filling that Nalgene bottle, the same quote runs through my head:

Dwight: Studies show that more information is passed through water cooler gossip than through official memos, which puts me at a disadvantage because...[picks up water bottle]...I bring my own water to work.

At least it starts my day on a hilarious note. :p I need an icon, methinks.

2. This is why I suggested attack dogs. But no, my mother wanted an alpaca. )

3. So, the snow is starting to piss me off, as it's threatening my livelihood. Not only did I nearly slip and break my neck last night on the sidewalk outside of my apartment complex (because yes, I am that coordinated), but Barnes & Noble has been without power for two days, and of course those two days have to be the days I was supposed to work. This week? I will be getting a lousy eight hours. Which I'd feel better about if I'd already paid more than just half of my bills this month.

4. I was supposed to bring in all my tax information to fax to my mother this morning, since she was awesome enough to find someone who will do my taxes for me, and who am I to pass that up? I know that one day I'll need to be able to easily do it on my own, but I figure now's not that time. However, in my haste to get out the door this morning, I remembered every piece of information except the fax number. Yay Team Heather!

5. Also? I'm having a grammar nazi kind of day. But seriously? It bugs the hell out of me going through all these templates on the computer and finding misplaced or just plain missing commas. I shudder to think of all the documents that went out before I got here that were just plain wrong.

6. I'm in a West Wing groove the past few nights, and currently I'm rewatching the staff-finds-out-about-the-MS arc, and I'm really starting to wish I had S3 on DVD, because I'm not up for watching Two Cathedrals any time soon, but I want to keep going. I think that might have to be next investment. Sometime far away from now, though, 'cause I've spent all I'm allowing myself to spend of my birthday money. Let me just say, though, there will never be a part of me that doesn't wish that I could just be C.J. Cregg. Seriously

Four things that make me happy today:

1. Scrubs is finally coming back!

2. VM cast picture. )

3. Steph's Veronica Mars/West Wing comparison.
There are still no words for how awesome that post is. Hee.

4. I can walk again! My back still aches a little, but I'm no longer limping around and you all can't point and laugh anymore. :p I'm crediting this to the long hot bath I took last night and then the plopping down on the couch and not moving for several hours thing I did. Good times.

ETA: More happy things:

5. VM Day! (Also, Shallow Trashy Fun finale!)
6. Matthew Perry being asked to do Aaron Sorkin's new project!
7. I watched A Charlie Brown Christmas last night. Best. Christmas special. Ever. :)
8. Exclamation points!
9. AHHH! HOW DID I FORGET??? The Holiday card and Best of '05 CD that [livejournal.com profile] cerulgalactus sent me. Totally awesome! :))
10. French fries and turkey melts from Ram's Head. Though, points off for getting pickle juice all over my food. :p

I feel like I've been updating my LJ a lot more than I should considering I still don't have the Internet at home...

My weekend at a glance. )

Saturday night I went to see Jarhead with Ashley, Chris, and Mike. My short, somewhat shallow, and not-very-spoilery reactions, upon leaving the theater:

Jarhead )

And finally, The West Wing 7.07 )

I suppose I should rustle up some work. ...really, I just wanted an excuse to say rustle up.
evergleam: (Default)
I swear, there is other stuff in my life besides television. :p

Prison Break )

In other news, I have to work today from 8:30 a.m. to midnight, with my only break coming from 5-6 p.m. Brilliant, Heather, just brilliant. You see why I have nothing else to talk about but TV?
evergleam: (vm - oh casey i love you)
1. Great weekend. Friday night I went to see Stay with Ashley. I liked it a lot, if nothing else it was very visually appealing--both because of the Ewan factor and the cinematography. ;) I'd like to see it again anyway, just to figure out all the little stuff I missed the first time through.

2. Friday, I also landed myself a second job at Barnes & Noble. They're starting me out in the cafe, which I wasn't too thrilled about, but I met the girl who's going to be training me and she seems really cool, so I'm sure it'll work out. Plus, since I'm technically a rehire, I'm making a whoooole lot more than I was when I worked in the bookstore at school last year. So that's pretty awesome.

3. Saturday my mother cancelled on me again, and so was spent out with the girls and Mike, who I haven't seen in months and months. We went to (where else?) Griffin's and had dinner and drinks, then walked over to Ram's Head, and then headed home to watch the Great Mouse Detective and sleep. Because we are just that cool.

4. Yesterday after Mike and Christina went home, Aster hung out and watched Veronica Mars while I went in for training at B&N (she's up to Drinking the Kool-Aid. Oh Casey, I love you.) and then when I got back we did the sitting around and talking until we realize we're starving thing. It was wonderful, and much needed.

5. We also watched The West Wing last night. I have just this to say: )

6. I have to work a bunch this week, training and stuff and B&N, but someone somewhere likes me very much, as I am definitely not scheduled for Wednesday night. ;)

Sooo, all in all, a fabulous weekend, which is just what I was looking for. I miss my friends, so this was just what I wanted. Especially since I have to work both Saturday and Sunday next weekend. :p
evergleam: (ww - you seem so out of context)
So I should probably be using this limited Internet time of mine to talk about something other than TV, but.

The West Wing 7.04 )

Anyway, that said, I had a nice relaxing weekend. I went to a wedding yesterday for my cousin, which was actually sort of the most boring cookie-cutter wedding ever, and today I spent some time with my mother going through boxes and boxes of old things, throwing out stuff, consolidating old memories, that kind of thing. I had dinner with my stepfather and sisters, and I've spent the rest of the evening trying to fix my sister's computer and get all the stuff I downloaded over the summer off of it.

Ugh, I hate Sunday nights, though. I really don't want the week to start up again tomorrow. Siiiigh. I really wish I had more to say, or rather, the time to say everything.

When you see this on your flist, quote Firefly. (AKA gratuitous Firefly love!)

Mal: Which one you figure tracked us?
Zoe: The ugly one, sir.
Mal: ...could you be more specific?
Marco: Do we look "reasonable" to you?
Mal: Well. Looks can be deceiving.
Jayne: Not as deceiving as a low down dirty... deceiver!
Mal: Well said. Wasn't that well said, Zoe?
Zoe: Had a kind poetry to it, sir.

--from Out of Gas

Alternately:

Zoe: Sir, is there some information we might maybe be lacking? As to why there's an entire fedsquad sitting on this train?
Mal: It doesn't concern us.
Zoe: It kind of concerns me...
Mal: I mean they're not protecting the goods. If they were, they wouldn't be letting people past 'em.
Zoe: You don't think it changes the situation a bit?
Mal: I surely do. Makes it more fun.
Zoe: Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.
Mal: Come on. We stick to the plan, we get the goods and we're back on Serenity before the train even reaches Paradiso only now we do it under the noses of twenty trained Alliance feds and that makes them look all manner of stupid. Hell, this job I would pull for free.
Zoe: ...then can I have your share?
Mal: No.
Zoe: If you die can I have your share?
Mal: Yes.

WEEEEEE, Serenity on Friday!

Also, it would appear that Edward Norton is the most likeable of all the likeable guys I mentioned in my poll, at least according to you guys. Although, not many of you have love for Jackie Chan, which is quite sad. And the Braff almost pulled off a 100% likeability, but a couple people squeezed in some Nays at the end. Booo to you, I say. ;)

Hmmm, I'm listening to the new Rent soundtrack, and I'm not sure I like it. Mostly, it sounds the same, but there are a lot of little differences that I'm hoping don't bug me too much on screen, because I've really been looking forward to this movie. Rosario Dawson completely ruined my favorite song, but I'm liking her in most of the others, so that's something. And she's the only non-original castmember, isn't she?

Okay, so I'm gonna settle in with some mindless TV and try and get to sleep early tonight. Won't that be something novel?

P.S. VM tomorrow!!

P.P.S. ...does anyone else think of Logan the Drama Queen any time they hear Kelly Clarkson's "Behind these Hazel Eyes"?

P.P.P.S. I got my tooth fixed today! ;)

Hi. I'm alive.

Went to the Ben Folds/Rufus Wainwright concert last night, and it was so so much fun, complete with my favorite Ben song (My Philosophy) and audience participation on Not the Same. Also, Rufus is awesome. He brought out one of his sisters to sing harmony on Hallelujah and it was so freaking gorgeous. I still can't get over how different his singing voice is from his talking voice, though. It's like two different people. Also, Ben Lee opened, and it was fun and Australian. We were a little disappointed that Ben went before Rufus instead of the other way around, and that they didn't sing anything together (I was so hoping for a little Careless Whispers *g*), but all in all it was lots of fun. And we met up with James and Laura after the show, so yay! Good times.

Today I spent a few hours in DC with Aster and Garrett. It was really far too hot for doing touristy things, but we did spend some time at the Botanical Gardens, so that was good. I really don't go into the city nearly enough any more. I really want to go over to Dupont sometime soon for some gay bar-hopping. Maybe when Megan comes home. :)
