Okay, it is one thing to have to go to work on the day after Christmas, but it another thing entirely to actually have a bunch of stuff to do. :p

[Poll #895418]

I tried my luck at downloading the Doctor Who Christmas special, but no dice. I'll try again tonight, and otherwise I guess I'll just have to wait it out. Boooo. I'm working tonight, hopefully hanging out with Aster tomorrow night, and my sister is supposed to come visit Thursday night. And then! Three whole blissful days off from Saturday-Monday. Still don't have any New Year's plans to speak of, but hopefully something will crop up. If nothing else, there are always fireworks and creepy mimes down by the docks.

Also! Happy birthday, [livejournal.com profile] _jems_! I hope you're having fun!

I can hook you up with Doctor Who, Heather. Which filesharing sites work best for you?

DUDE. MAL VS CRICHTON?!? ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME? I THINK YOU ARE. My instinct is to go with Mal. He has had all that war time experience and what not. Despite Crichtons penchant for getting himself in to violent situation, Mal's probably been in more fights. HOWEVER, John has had Aeryn after him (in the violent way) and survived, and he's survived Scorpey and loads of other competant baddies, so, I DON'T KNOW. I think it's a perfectly matched fight which will depend on luck and happenstance for an outcome. In my head they will at some point during the fight realize they are both the good guys, and will reach some sort of truce, or team up against some other baddie, and the day will end with a lot of back-slapping and beer drinking.

I don't know about Jim, but I want to think of him as a Rolling Stones guy. *g*

I can't pick a favourite Christmas episode of anything ever either. THESE QUESTIONS ARE TOO DIFFICULT MERRY CHRISTMAS.

STEPH! :)

You're awesome. :) I wasn't having much luck with sendspace or this new mediafile thing, but I haven't tried anything else yet. I know I downloaded TCI on my old computer last year, so I should be able to get it somehow, but maybe it's just too old to do what I want it to do anymore. :p

DUDE. MAL VS CRICHTON?!? ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME? I THINK YOU ARE.

Heh. Yes! My gut instinct is to also go with Mal, just because he has less problem with being violent than John does, but John is awfully good at getting out of scrapes like that. I originally just said who'd win in a fight, but then I had to change it to a fair fight, because otherwise I feel like Crichton would get the edge since he has lasers and wormholes and D'Argo and Aeryn and crazy old ladies on his side, and Mal has horses and...Jayne.

at some point during the fight realize they are both the good guys, and will reach some sort of truce, or team up against some other baddie, and the day will end with a lot of back-slapping and beer drinking.

Hee! Except this is totally what would happen. They're totally the kind of guys who'd hate each other at first, fight a lot, and then realize they should be best friends and annoy the crap out of everyone else with their macho good ole boy-ness. ;) I hope someone's written fic.

I don't know about Jim, but I want to think of him as a Rolling Stones guy. *g*

I know! When I took Des' poll, I think you were the only other person who marked Rolling Stones, but I went back and looked a few others have since then. But still! He's totally a Rolling Stones kind of guy. :p

MERRY CHRISTMAS, STEPH!!!

You said fair fight, so I pick Crichton. Mal would almost certainly try to cheat if he started to lose. But yeah, it'd be mostly evenly matched, I think.

This is true. Though, I think Crichton's got the advantage if the fight isn't fair. His universe has lasers and wormholes and guys with tongues that knock people out. ;)

And mmmmm. I always get distracted by the Simon!neck on that icon.

I only put a 5 down because I start classes on 1 February. So the end of January will not be a happy time for me.

Fair enough. I'll just be happy for things to go back to normal after the first of the year. :p

I heard the Doctor Who special was weird, or at least weirder than usual. I quote "Robot Santas brandishing trumpets and explosive ornaments".

Also, how about DC for New Years? Is that still possible?

There were robot santas last year, too, though. :p

DC for New Year's is still a possibility. I mean, I don't know what, though. We could find a bar or something, or maybe just hang out on the mall. Finding a bar seems like a lot more work than I'm willing to put in, though. :p My friend from work wants to hang out, too. Maybe we could have people over or something. Snooty neighbors shouldn't get mad on New Year's. :p

Are there fireworks in DC? Cause we could just go eat and then watch them. And what are Rachel and Meagan doing?

I don't know, I've never done DC, but I think there are. I've watched it on TV before. There's something, anyway, because Rachel did it one year.

I talked to Rachel and Megan and they want to do something, but no one really knows what. I think the NY idea dissipated for various reasons, but I don't know what we were thinking of beyond that.

We were thinking about it, but it looks like we may just spend the evening in downtown Annapolis instead. I'm not sure what we'd do in DC...

I tried filling out your poll, but I got stuck immediately because I couldn't even think of any other Christmas episodes than AEFC and Noël (both of which I love, but neither of which feel all that Christmasy), except for probably some comedy shows episodes and I don't care so much (ooooh, except for The Office. I think A Benihana Christmas may be close to the top). And as for holidays, I think Christmas is the only holiday I like for what it is, but I still might have to go with Midsummer because it's at a better time of year.

Basically, I'm sick and I think my brain was the first system to shut down.

And thanks! =)

Hee. I think the reason I like those two Christmas eps so much is because they aren't very Christmasy. :p I almost put a question pitting the two Office Christmas episodes against each other, but then I couldn't figure out what I'd answer, so I didn't.

Being sick on your birthday kinda sucks! I hope you feel better soon! :)

for someone such as myself who has a decent amount of TV overlap with someone such as yourself, do you think i might enjoy doctor who?

(don't hit me but i'd never even heard of it until recently. i'm not a huge sci-fi person. i love battlestar galactica and almost loved torchwood. i used to love shows like quantum leap and...that's all i can think of right now.)

I think you should at least give it a try. It's way better than Torchwood ended up being, so if you almost loved that you probably will love DW. The sci-fi often lands on the campy side, but the humor and the characters make up for it. Plus Captain Jack is a million times more awesome on DW than what I've seen of him on Torchwood. :p And the great thing about the new series is that you don't really need to even know anything about the old stuff to dive in, because I'd never seen any Doctor Who at all before I started watching the new stuff, and I ended up really loving it.

The beginning of the first series started out a little slow for me, but if you can stick it out to episode 8 or so, the last run of episodes are really good.

I like that your poll results are like a listing of all the holidays. Honestly I didn't cheat just to pick the left over ones...

(unless your groundhog day doubles as a birthday one and then we kind of tie, I guess)

Oh. My. Gosh. I'm watching Supernatural right now (I have the DVD set) and I just randomly found you by searching for people who like extra sharp cheddar cheese (Yeah, I had nothing else to do.) And you are in love with the same shows me and all my friends are.

OK, so I may be a complete random stranger. But come on, how weird is that?

haitus for Fireflicons?

I can't keep on doing Fireflicons by myself. I know you're prob busy still, so I'm going to announce winners on Monday & that we're going on haitus again unless you tell me different. (I don't mind putting together the voting post nearly as much as I don't dig figuring out the winners.) Anyway, just wanted to say something to both of you just in case you've got enough time to come back to it n stuff.

Hi! Sorry, I'm not sure I have the time (or energy) to keep up with it myself anymore, either. It's a lot of work for one person to handle, you've been doing a great job. I totally understand the need to put it on hiatus, though. ;)

'Tis Elise; hope you remember me. Thought I'd friend you since we seem to have many things in common. Also I'm making you the John Barrowman Kit of DOOM. How much of Torchwood have you seen?

But of course I remember you. You are AMAZING for making the Barrowman kit of DOOM. :)

I think Cyberwoman may have been the last episode I saw, but it might've been the one after that.
