evergleam1. I went to Atlantic City with Racheal this weekend. I cannot tell you how nice it was to just destress for a little while, and not feel so constantly keyed up for a weekend. I drove up Friday night, and got there kind of late, we went to the very late showing of X3, and then crashed and slept in on Saturday before heading to the shore for three days. We spent most of the weekend on or near the beach--we must have walked at least six miles back and forth on Saturday. We got caught in a late afternoon rain storm, walked through a couple of casinos, and ate at the Rainforest Cafe. Sunday was our beach day, and we spent the entire afternoon out there. Even slathering myself in sunscreen and covering myself up with a towel for most of the day didn't stop the sunburn--I blame the fact that it's just so damn easy to fall asleep out there. :p Yesterday we went to the Boardwalk and ate gross food and played minigolf and all that good stuff. Like I said, it was nice just to relax for a little while.

Well, unfortunately, count me among those who didn't really like it. It's not that it wasn't entertaining, because it definitely had it's awesome moments, it's just that, well, if you know me at all I'm sure you know what my problems were, but I can't stand to see something with so much potential not use it. The movie lost itself in its special effects and forgot what made the first two so much fun. I read this somewhere, and I completely agree, it's like the movie was afraid of its own themes. It should have focused on Rogue and whether or not to take the cure, mirroring that with what was happening to Jean, mirroring that with Wolverine and Storm, etc. etc. etc. It should have played up the Iceman/Pyro dynamic as a mirror to Professor X/Magneto, friends and reluctant enemies. It shouldn't have shied away from all the relevant issues that the movie raises in relation to what's happening in the world right now. That's why we like superhero movies, you know?
The biggest mistake I thought the movie made, though, didn't even have to do with the lack of substance or the really bad dialogue or the awful ending. I can't get over the fact that the heroes, the good guys, the people with the moral high ground used the cure against Magneto. That was a wrong decision, in my opinion. Well, no, it was only a wrong decision because the movie seemed to condone it. If you're going to have the superheroes do something so morally questionable as that, there should be repercussions. There should be at the very least, I don't know, a little guilt or something.
Like I said, mostly, I just hate to see such wasted potential. But, enough of that, how about a poll?!

3. I've been talking to my uncle about flying up to Boston for a weekend sometime in June. I'm actually getting really excited, though I kinda wish I could have gone this past month before the weather started shifting into unbearable mugginess. I've been thinking about it a lot, and I'm really going to start saving to move up there. I'm not sure if I'd rather try for this winter or next spring. I may just wait until after my sister graduates high school, because I'd like to be close until then, but who knows. Maybe I'll go up in June and decide I never want to leave. :p
4. Speaking of unbearable mugginess, it's not even June yet and the awful Maryland summer weather has started. It is so gross outside right now, and on top of that, it's sort of freezing in my office, so going back and forth is not so much helping my sunburn-crazy body temperature. Couldn't we just have the perfect May weather stay a little while longer?
