Okay, the first and most pressing issue is this: Are Veronica and Wallace really going to go to college at Buffy's high school, too? Really?

No, really?

The second and only slightly less pressing issue, is hey! How about the fact that I absolutely loved this episode? In fact, for the first time since the season started, I can't wait for next week. If the rest of the episodes for this season could be like that, I think I'd sit up and start really paying attention again.

It really worked as a setup for Veronica and college, I think. It's a good idea to show how much Veronica doesn't want to stay in Neptune, and doesn't want to go to Hearst, so that way, when she ends up going there for whatever reason she's going to have to go there, she'll still be able to be a little bitter. Plus, maybe they'll be able to talk George Michael into guest starring a couple more times, and what can be bad about that? The only little teensy thing is Wallace's basketball scholarship. I mean, I'm totally willing to overlook it because they aren't breaking up the best BFF ever, which I really thought they might do, but most smallish liberal arts schools don't give out athletic scholarships, because most smallish liberal arts schools don't compete in NCAA Division I. And the reason I know this is because I would be a millionaire if I had a dime every time I got asked this question while giving a tour over the course of three years at a smallish liberal arts school. But! Wallace has to want to go there, and so I will stop nitpicking. :)

(Oh, but also, I love Troy and his fun, sexy times. I do. I'm not going to deny it. I wouldn't mind seeing him around now and again next year, either. And it's not like Aaron Ashmore is doing much else. And if they're waiting to resolve this rape case until next year, I guess it makes sense that he'll have to show up again, right? Which also means that we might see Maeby again, too, yeah?)

The thing that sticks out the most, though, is how much I really liked Veronica. And maybe it was just the nature of the MotW, but she actually connected with the other characters, and some of that old vulnerability that I originally identified with resurfaced, and I really appreciated that. It's not that I necessarily want her to go back to being the way she was at the beginning of S1, because, hi, character growth, but I'd like her to be more than just going through the motions, and she seemed to be doing that here. Now, if we can just keep that up and then get her to wear some cuter clothes again, things would really be looking up.

Anyway, how funny was this episode? I'm still laughing at the mental image of Cliff handcuffed to the hotel bed--and the fact that the person he calls is Keith. I'm kind of loving the idea of the two of them being best friends. I can already imagine Cliff heading over to Keith's apartment the first night Veronica's at college, vodka and bad movies in hand. Or maybe they'll watch the South Park movie and eat lasagna. Hee.

And then there's Logan. I've seen some people complaining about this, and maybe I'm just severely dense or maybe I'm blinded by character love, but I thought it worked really well. I don't believe for a second that Logan actually loves Hannah. He might think he does, or that he could, but that's really not what's going on. The guy has absolutely nothing going for him, and he feels guilty about all the awful things he did to this one person who actually trusted him, and so of course he's going to try and find some comfort with her. When he was asking her to forgive him, I didn't get the it's-because-I-love-you-slash-care-so-much-about-you vibe at all. It was a selfish move, his body language was screaming "Please don't leave me alone." Logan's just been beaten down so much and then beaten down some more, that I completely buy the idea of him giving up his tough persona for even just a little while. Overall, I thought the whole scene with Dick and the cake and the drinking and then going and asking Hannah (and just so you know, I wrote Veronica there first) for forgiveness was a nice bit of show-don't-tell that's been lacking lately.

So, I'm excited about what's coming up, and with the airing of that episode, I'm officially spoiler-free again, and for the time being I guess I'll stay that way. It's nice to be excited about next week and have no idea what's coming again. I'd almost forgotten what it was like.

ETA: Spoilers for the promo only in the comments.

Yes! To everything you said. I adored The Rapes of Graff and am anxiously awaiting the next ep. It's been so, so long!

I agree that Logan "thinks" he's in love with Hannah, but I just like to see him being smitten, I don't really care about the whos, whats or whys. :d

I seriously want to see that Cliff/Keith scene you described, it would be too awesome!

Did you watch the preview for next week after the ep? After such a good episode, the preview for next week looked even better. So. Yay!

Oh, I like seeing Logan vulnerable like this, too. He's been putting up that hard shell around Veronica for so long that it's nice to get a glimpse of this side of him again.

Heh, I think you're right when you say that Cliff/Keith can give Wallace/Veronica a run for the title of Best BFF ever. ;)

I watched the preview. And it was GLORIOUS!!

L/V High Fives!!

Um. Was there other stuff?!

Oh yeah. Weevil in V's apartment!!

Those are the two things that stick out in my memory. I sure wish UPN would be a little faster in posting the previews to the website.

Cliff/Keith are awesome! Now, if they could just find a way for Vinnie to be part of their "crew" I'd be one happy fangirl :)

Yes! It was the high-five that killed me! I remember there being something else about it that I thought was great, but it was the high five! In a car! AWESOME. Maybe they really will go back to being friends. Eventually. Yay!

And also the Weevil. I remember Weevil and thinking "Hey! Weevil's in this show, too!" Heh. So double yay! I didn't realize he was in Veronica's apartment, though. That's even better.

Oh, man. Could you imagine the glorious snark in a Cliff/Keith/Vinnie crime-fighting trio? WHERE IS THE FIC????

I think that was my exact thoughts when watched (and rewatched) the preview! And yes, they will go back to being friends. I have no doubt. And when they do I will come running to your LJ so we can jump around and squee together! I can't wait!

Could you imagine the glorious snark in a Cliff/Keith/Vinnie crime-fighting trio?
OMG for serious! The snark, dear lord the snark!! And the bad fashion! Members Only jackets for Vinnie, Tommy Bahama-wear for Cliff, and Keith's JC Penney collection. Oh, and the music!! I can see Vinnie loving lots of Hall & Oates and Huey Lewis & the News, and Keith will dig his classic rock. Of course Cliff loves Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, no doubt. OMG I really, really want this now! Yes. Where is that fic?!

Ah! I didn't even say anything about Madison and Lamb. That's so awesome. Do you remember now, why you used to love this show to bits? 'Cause I do. :)

I think the fact that hannah was the one who said he wanted her to forgive him supports what you're saying entirely. If he had begged for it instead of her assuming, hoping as any of us would that he wanted her to take him back, I would have believed he really loved her.

Also, I giggled with glee to see Troy back.

Was that really buffy's high school? I thought it was familiar.

I really loved this episode too, I hope it continues like this.

I love you heather, just thought that needed to be said ;)

See, I think that's what it was for me, too. When he was waiting for her at the track, he wasn't asking for anything, he was just standing there so completely defeated, you know? Did he even apologize outright, because I don't think he did. That moment is really all about what he needs for himself, not about his feelings, real or imagined, for Hannah. Or so I'm going to choose to believe. ;)

And I'm 99% sure it was Buffy's high school, but I'd have to watch again to be positive. But there were the red roofs and archways and the big lawn. And I know that specific high school is used for a lot of different shows and movies, so I really think it was. But still. It's weird.

I'm okay with the idea that Logan was still using Hannah, just for different, less evil reasons. She made him feel like a better person or made his life less emotionally empty or whatever. Clearly this is something they needed to do to not make Logan "irredeemable", which I don't think he was, but I'm an apologist. Maybe the regular audience (heh, does VM even have one?) needed it. But Logan saying that nothing Dr. Cokehead did would stop him from seeing Hannah was a too over the romantic hero top for my tastes. I don't see this storyline as Logan truly falling for Hannah, I don't see how he could, but from that scene on, they lost me.

Yeah, see, that's still not over the line of things Logan could do to make me think he was irredeemable. I'm not even sure where that line is, but he's not really anywhere near it yet. :p But I can see how the writer's might think this was the reason they needed to tone it down a little.

And I see what you're saying about the over the top romantic hero thing at the end, but for some reason, when I was watching that scene it didn't strike me quite the same way. Maybe I live in a delusional world of fanwankiness (which, I know I do), but that for me was part Logan thinking he meant it, and part trying to get one more jab in at Dr. Cokehead. I don't know. I probably need to rewatch and think about it some more. Which, for the first time in a very long time, I actually want to do!

Yes! Buffy! If they actually end up there (on the same set) next year I will be a very amused bunny. When fandoms collide eh?

Oh and ITA on your Logan thoughts - I see it as a desperate, quite selfish thing. But that's part of what I love about Logan... he's not very nice!

Hmm, I'm hearing it's not actually the same set that Buffy and all those other shows/movies used, but it sure looks enough alike that that's all I'll be able to think of when I see it. :p

And yes! Logan has serious flaws, which makes him interesting. I love it when the writers actually allow that to happen, without making him out to be the Baddest Bad Guy that ever did Bad. :p
