It's that time of year again!
Sep. 23rd, 2005 11:28 am...where I inundate you with VM-related posts and (most of) you roll your eyes. You know you missed it!
Anyway. Some thoughts.
So, predictably, I've been somewhat obsessively watching the clip whenever I get a chance. And it's simultaneoulsy sated my need for new VM and made me sort of giddy with anticipation for the new season.
I absolutely love the way Veronica steeled herself and was just going to barrell full speed ahead and tell Logan about his dad. I'm glad she didn't have to, for her sake anyway. Though I do feel sort of bad for Logan that he had to hear it on the radio instead of from someone who actually cares about him, but at least Veronica was spared that burden.
On that note, though, I'm really starting to believe that Logan is this boyfriend we hear about in the opening scene on UPN's site. It's entirely clear how much Veronica cares about Logan when he shows up at her door, and she knows first-hand how much pain he's in. No matter how much he pushes her away or tries to ignore her or move on, I don't see her just jumping into the arms of another guy--especially if that guy is Duncan. I feel like it would take her more than two months to sort through her feelings for Logan before she was ready to give someone else boyfriend status. I don't know, maybe I'm wearing my rose-colored 'shipper glasses, but it makes sense to me.
And anyway, I keep forgetting this is the show that doesn't adhere to standard conventions. I never thought they'd get Veronica and Logan together by the end of S1, and logically I didn't think it could be Logan at the door. So why wouldn't they try and reconcile the two early in S2? Why couldn't this be a show that isn't about a "will they or won't they?" and instead about two (or three!) people trying to figure out their romantic places in each other's lives? You know, alongside all the murders and corruption and snarky banter.
Aside from V/L, I find it interesting that on the bridge Weevil is immediately knocked out (though I'm not entirely convinced one kick to the face from a drunk guy with no balance *would* knock him out, but whatever). Obviously, he's going to be unconscious and unable to tell Veronica what actually happened, but it also lets him off the hook for being responsible for whatever's going to happen to Logan. And it makes his path really unclear in the sense that we might not know who's side he's going to be on, or the extent of his knowledge about the night's events.
It's also interesting to me that Logan names Weevil outright when Veronica asks him who hurt him, when Weevil didn't actually do any of the beating. We don't know if Weevil was going to do quite the number on him that the rest of the PCHers did once Logan knocked Weevil out, though I suppose we could assume he was. I sort of get the impression from the way Felix says "You don't know what you just did" that's there's more to it than just "you knocked out our leader and now you're going down." But again, I could be completely off-base here.
I can't wait to see where all of this goes.
So, um, if a three minute clip can really inspire all that rambling incoherence, I'm a little worried what this episode's gonna do to my brain. :p
Is it Wednesday yet??

Date: 2005-09-23 10:40 pm (UTC)The one reason I don't want the boyfriend over the summer to be Logan (even though I'm starting to suspect you're right) is that I don't want to miss any of their interaction.

Date: 2005-09-23 11:35 pm (UTC)I'm not entirely sure I want the boyfriend to be Logan, either, though I can't say I'll be completely disappointed. I get logically why it would be better for it to be Duncan and for her to get past that sooner rather than later, but I really kind of cringe at the idea of seeing the two of them together.
But you're right, I don't want to miss all that painful and agonizing interaction that's sure to take place in getting Veronica and Logan back together, either. So I'm kind of torn as far as that whole thing goes. :)
