My computer has some stupid spyware on it and I can't figure out to get it off. It's pissing me the hell off.

BECK!

(Sorry. Beck's head is on Futurama. I love me some Beck.)

That's about the only thing that's brought a genuine smile to my face today. All the rest was just me being polite. Or trying to keep a four-year-old happy.

I'm really tired. I've been going to bed really early the last few days. I'm run down and unhappy, and now Beck is playing his music on Futurama! This is my favorite Beck-radio song. Woo. I'll stop talking about Beck, I swear.

I wish I could figure out what the hell was wrong with me so I could fix it. Grargh.

My wrist hurts like I have to crack a bone or something. It aches and I'm afraid of carpel tunnel or something. Stupid keyboard. Haha. Now Beck is making fun of Devil's Haircut. And Odelay. I love Beck.

But there are two (more) things I was wondering if you cool people could help me with:

1. Does anyone know of an mp3 converter I could download for free or cheap? I need something to convert my CD files to mp3s, but I don't know what's good and won't screw up my computer. I don't need more spyware.

2. Chris, do you think it would be possible for me to borrow your camera sometime soon? I want to take some pictures of this little place off of rt. 97 and post them, and I'd rather not go through the buying film/developing film/scanning pictures thing if I can help it. I'll supply batteries and all that good stuff. If you would rather not part with your baby, though, I'd understand.

And that's all. I should go to sleep. I'm kind of worried though, I've been having really strange and bad dreams lately, from apocalypses to terrorist attacks to walking in on Greg and another girl. They seem to be on different levels, but in my brain when I'm sleeping, it's all the same.

Good night.

Sure. Just let me know when so I can clear off the memory disc.

Also, check here for converters.

Well, I guess I don't know exactly what 'cd files' on a computer are.... but I can just record songs from cds onto my computer and they're automatically .mp3 files. is that what you mean?

Yes. When I copy CDs to my computer, they're only .wma files and not .mp3 files. I need something to convert them.

hmm... well if you use musicmatch jukebox (it just came on my computer but you may be able to download it), you can use that to record the cds onto your comp as .mp3 files. good luck finding something that works!

I used to have that on my computer, but when I wiped it and installed Windows 2000, I lost it. Mayhaps I will see if I can download it, cause I at least already know how to use that program. Thanks! :)

EAC. it is hands down the best mp3 encoder. basicly, you open the program, stick the cd in and it will even search for the track names for you. and then all you do is hit the MP3 button and it makes mp3s.

you have to go through and set up the preferences as far as what bitrate you want it to encode at and where you want it to save things, but it's totally easy.

(there is a really good guide for setting everything up in that leink above)

Rock. That sounds wonderful and uncomplicated and exactly what I need. Thanks darlin! :)

Yeah. Anon 'cause I am. But I'm a geek, if that narrows it down ;)

For getting rid of spyware, you want Ad-aware or SpyBot-S&D. I use Ad-aware 'cause I like the interface, but you can use either.

For ripping CDs, I use CDex (http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/), not because it's incredibly easy to use, but because it's Open Source, and not that tough to use.

I have Ad-Aware and thus far it hasn't worked. And I'm pretty sure that CDex is what gave me this spyware in the first place.
From: (Anonymous)
No offense, but CDex doesn't install spyware. In fact, I don't know of a single thing that's hosted on SourceForge that installs anything but what it's supposed to.

No offense taken. :P I just can't figure out where the hell all this spyware came from all the sudden, then. I just figured it was that because that was the only thing I had downloaded recently.

Itunes offers a simple interface for dealing with ripping from cd to mp3 format ... not to mention a host of other great perks.

For spyware you can also snag a little program called 'Hijack This' I just used it to clean off my computer and it found tons of stuff that Adaware missed. Also when you run adaware you should set custom settings if you do some searches on the web you should be able to come up with some stuff in that regards.

I did run the custom settings of Ad-aware, but it still failed to get everything off. I'll check out HijackThis next, thanks a lot! :)
