Nov. 17th, 2005 02:36 pmIt's been a busy day, so this is somewhat later than usual. :p But that doesn't mean I don't want to blather on endlessly!
Duncan, Logan, and Veronica
First, let's take a quick look at the questionable things that the "honest" boyfriend did in this episode alone:
1. Snooped through Meg's computer files, which he'd been trusted to keep safe.
2. Took a letter from Meg's room, very specifically hiding it from Veronica.
3. Lied to Veronica and Logan about what went on in his bedroom with Kendall.
He's certainly not what Veronica thinks he is, and that's becoming more and more apparent to everyone involved. I haven't read a lot of speculation on what the letter in Meg's vent was. I'm not entirely convinced that Duncan knew what it was, it may be that he's just snooping some more. Though, the look he gives Veronica while he's putting it in his pocket may suggest that he knows exactly what it is. A letter he wrote, perhaps? Some incriminating piece of information that has to do with Duncan's big Meg-related secret (which I don't actually know anything about. I'm assuming the secret is Meg-related because why else did they keep her alive)? I really couldn't begin to guess what the secret could be, or why Duncan's so adamant to keep it from Veronica.
And then there's Logan, who was completely (and unhesitatingly) honest with Veronica about his dishonesty. That's an interesting contrast, considering the way Veronica treats the two of them.
So, anyway, the way I see it, the badness can't be far off. Veronica is minus one best friend, and Duncan is really all she's got—and he's certainly not much of a support system at the moment. Add to that the fact that we are right in the middle of November sweeps, and the VD implosion can't be far off. ;) This comes just as she’s starting to get more involved with helping Logan again, which will put Logan as the only guy in her corner, and turn the tables again. Though, until I saw Logan ask Veronica for help yet again, I would have said that the next time around she was going to have to be the one to go to him, because you'd really think that at some point Logan would stop trying. I'm sort of unhappy with that little plot contrivance, but I guess we know he's just a glutton for punishment. Either way, he's going to be the only one there when the cat starts to claw its way out of the bag.
(And as a side note? Duncan, sweetie, you need to get another expression. Constipated blinking doesn’t cut it when hot, naked, adulterousgirls women are in your bedroom.)
Episode Randomness
--What was up with that weird look Logan and Veronica exchanged after the FBLA teacher said that maybe it was better that Duncan didn’t know? Just an odd editing choice, or something more?
--Why exactly is Goodman so eager to get Keith on his side? Have I just been trained to not trust the mildly famous male guest star, or is something weird going on?
-- How much do I love Veronica's Ninja Turtles sleeping bag? More than Logan's adorable freckles, that's how much. You know she's a Donatello girl, too. ;)
--"The iPod girl and her waxy-eared boyfriend. Small world." Hee. Duncan still has waxy ears.
--That said, you guys know my feelings on Duncan, right? So, you know how big of me it has to be to admit what I'm about to admit, right? Right? But, well, I really liked him for about ten seconds there when he did the stepping-in-front-of-Veronica-protector thing. I know. First Dick, and now this. I'll go hide in the corner.
--Somebody mentioned that it was pretty crappy of Duncan to go all out to find this child that was being abused by his parents when he admitted to knowing about Logan's abuse and never did anything about it. I'm curious as to whether or not Duncan could have, consciously or not, been using this as a way to make up for that past wrong. I mean, that doesn't come across at all in watching the performance, but I'm wondering if that was the intention. Of course, the whole thing is probably much more about residual Meg-guilt, but still. It's a thought.
Can we just take a second here to talk about the freckles?

Those are some nice freckles.
--And wow did I ever love the ending. I was all "GOD I HATE YOU DON LAMB!" and then, and then! He went and surprised me. I love it when they do that. ;) But, layers people! Layers! And I was totally right when I said that Logan would grow up to go into law enforcement and become sheriff, because, um, hi. He did. :p I am now even more convinced that Lamb's going to play an important role in this season's mysteries. Still haven't figured out what that role might be, but I'm mulling it over. I'm guessing I'll need a few more episodes. ;)

Date: 2005-11-17 07:55 pm (UTC)I think one of the big reasons why I don't think Duncan and Kendall did anything is because if Veronica breaks up with Duncan for cheating on her, then all this character development set-up (which, quite frankly, has been all their relationship has been good for) will be for naught.
It's good to see actual tangible evidence of Duncan not being at all what Veronica thinks, though. The Meg thing was murky, but the computer thing? And the vent thing? Definitely devious.
What was up with that weird look Logan and Veronica exchanged after the FBLA teacher said that maybe it was better that Duncan didn’t know?
I think that it was one of those "Do you have any idea why he isn't here?" "No, do you?" things.

girlswomen are in your bedroom.I kinda want to do a picspam with all the caps that have Duncan looking exactly the same in about thirty different situations. Finding out your ex-girlfriend is not your sister? Confused constipation. Finding a naked woman in your bedroom? Confused constipation. Learning that you killed your sister? Confused constipation.
But I think I'll wait until I've finished capping season 1. =)

Date: 2005-11-17 08:24 pm (UTC)I don't think Duncan and Kendall did anything either, and a lot of it has to do with what you said, but I do think that something suspicious (other than a naked woman waiting for a 17-year-old boy as he got out of the shower) went on behind those closed doors. Or else Duncan is even more closed off than I thought, because it doesn't make sense to me that he wouldn't tell Logan what happened, when it's very clear that Logan doesn't have any actual feelings for Kendall.
I think that it was one of those "Do you have any idea why he isn't here?" "No, do you?" things.
Ahh, fair enough. I think I'm just used to the two of them being so completely Not Civil with each other lately, that something as simple as that slipped my mind. :p

BWAH! Clearly, this should be your next project. Heeeeeeee.

Date: 2005-11-17 09:07 pm (UTC)Tee hee! You know the funniest part? Remember in RB, when the florist was describing the guy who bought Meg's flowers, he made some robot-like movements and sorta grunted?
Now remember who he was describing.

Hee! I was a ninja turtle slut. I could never decide who I wanted, so I just took turns with all of them. You know, in my imagination. Aaaand now you know I've had ninja turtle fantasies. Oh well.

Date: 2005-11-17 10:42 pm (UTC)I really do hope Duncan didn't do anything with Kendal. But they were in there for a while. Then again, she may have asked him about something after he turned her down which we have no idea about yet. I kind of love when I have no idea what's going to happen :)

Hee! I actually put one together yesterday but I was too lazy to post it. It's about 50 caps of Duncan either looking confused or making some other ridiculous face. So, if you don't want to bother I can save you the trouble by just getting around to posting mine.

Date: 2005-11-17 10:49 pm (UTC)I don't think Duncan and Kendall did anything, I think she just did the mouth-whipey thing to make Logan think she did. Personally, I'm surprised she didn't go straight for (Little) Dick. However, I do think they are making a point that Duncan is not the perfect little boy Veronica thinks he is. I am wondering if part of his Meg thing is guilt, over what I don't know, but going to visit her every day and trying to find this abused kid make me think he did something (or thinks he did something) to Meg that is eating at him. Duncan would harbor guilt, and I don't think its as simple as that Duncan is just not over her. All of this weird ass crap with Meg's family might be part of it, or they may just be using it to set up whatever is going on with the Donut.

HEEEEE! Oh, Steph. It's okay, I've had a massive crush on Donatello for as long as I can remember. ;)

Date: 2005-11-18 04:00 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure I don't think they had sex, either, but I think something shady went on. I'm really not sure what to think about Duncan at this point, because all last season his thing with Meg was just him using her as a Veronica 1.0 stand-in, and now it seems like he cared about her much more than came across last season. I'm wondering if it all doesn't come back to Duncan and some massive guilt issues.
