Stuff that happened on this awesome date in history:

1863 - Samuel Clemens becomes Mark Twain for first time.
1870 - Mark Twain, 34, marries Olivia Langdon in Elmira, NY.
1887 - In Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the first Groundhog Day is observed.
1897 - The Pennsylvania state capitol is destroyed by fire.

1922 - James Joyce's Ulysses published in Paris (1,000 copies).
1925 - Dog sleds reach Nome, Alaska with diphtheria serum, inspiring the Iditarod race.
1933 - Adolf Hitler dissolves the German Parliament.
1935 - The polygraph machine is tested for the first time. Leonard Keeler conducted the experiment in Portage, Wisconsin.
1940 - Frank Sinatra debuts with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.
1943 - World War II: The last Nazi forces surrender to the Soviets following the Battle of Stalingrad.
1959 - Buddy Holly's last performance (and Richie Valens and the Big Bopper).
1982 - "Late Night with David Letterman" premieres on NBC.
1990 - In South Africa President F.W. de Klerk allows the African National Congress to legally function again and promises to set Nelson Mandela free.
1995 - US space shuttle Discovery launched.
Plans for tomorrow/today include going to class, class, work, and more class. Spending a few blissful hours not doing homework of any kind, and then going out for margaritas and dessert-y things with my friend-type people after Racheal and Aster get out of class. Also, to watch Groundhog's Day at some point, cause I think it's the best idea ever to repeat my birthday over and over and over. ;)
Yay!
